March is Mad as a Hare

March 2024

March is a busy month for my family. It seems like there is always something going happening throughout the month. Not only are there birthdays and other celebrations, but there are also days that have their significance. There are plenty of reasons to have a party. Here is a look into the wild month of March that comes in like a lion and doesn't leave us much time to take a breath for what awaits us for the rest of the year.

What's Happening in March

The biggest wild card is always Easter. Easter might come in March, or it might come in April. This year, it comes on the very end of March. March 31 to be precise, so we have one more holiday and occasion to fit into our agenda this month.

In addition to our festivities, The Boy has just happens to have a dentist appointment on the first week of this month. Like I said, there is plenty to celebrate on this splendid month, like our dentist buying a new vacation home.

The Month of March

  • March 6 - As a history buff, March 6 has always had a significance to me. This was the day the Alamo fell. It's a date I've never forgotten. It's also the day I had my tonsils taken out. I was tired of the recurring peritonsillar abscesses. If you've ever had one, you know what I'm talking about.
  • March 7 - The Boy's birthday. This is usually a day when he gets to run around a trampoline park and goof around with his friends. I remind him how big he is getting, and I ask if he would like to read to me since he is such a big boy. This is turned down.
  • March 12 - My uncle Steve's birthday.
  • March 14 - My late grandfather's birthday. Also known as Pi Day. If you need an excuse to eat pie, here you go. You're welcome.
  • March 15 - The Ides of March. Julius Caesar's assassination.
  • March 17 - Saint Patrick's Day. Corned beef and potatoes for everybody (I was never much for cabbage). This day is a great excuse for me to enjoy a good Irish beer, although I'm not quite sure what it is we're celebrating.
  • March 20 - My nephew's birthday. The ungrateful little brat turns 20 this year. I still remember the birthday when I pitched batting practice to him all afternoon at the local playground. I remind him of this every time he rolls his eyes when I ask him to get me a beer. Also celebrating a birthday on this day is my Uncle Jeff.
  • March 27 - My father-in-law's birthday. He's a party animal, so you know this is going to be a wild time. (He's not a party animal.)
  • March 31 - Easter.

Plenty to Keep us Busy

Like I said, there is plenty to keep us busy during this month. It's going to be a busy time of going out to celebrate, play some music we don't normally listen to, and see family to celebrate special occasions. If there is a day that's not celebrating anything, Wife and I will no doubt have some sort of crisis or challenge to figure out. One thing I really like about March is that April follows. This means the start of baseball, as well as playoffs in hockey and basketball. Plus, it's also my birthday month, and I like to remind the children, so they don't forget.
