Our Unexpected Day in Boston

Sometimes plans fall through. If plans don't work, parents need to figure out something new. New plans can even be made on the fly. Wife took a week off. Summer Vacation is winding down and she wanted to have a little more time with the family before the children go back to school. We're Going on a Whale Watch We planned to go on a whale watch. I was excited to do this. I hadn't been on a whale watch in over 30 years and the kids have never been on one. It's been a hot summer, so some time on a boat would be a great way to cool off. I also liked this because watching the whales reminded me of my time at the Whaling Museum in New Bedford . As usual, there was the usual hustle and bustle that involved getting our children out of bed and on the road in the morning. Wife and I worked together, especially when it came to the teens, to make sure everyone was up and ready to go. We hit the road rather close to our scheduled time. A Family Vacation in Chicago

 Chicago. The Windy City. The setting of "Chicago Fire", "The Fugitive", "The Blues Brothers", and the ultimate destination of our road trip. A view of Chicago from Lake Michigan. We pulled into the Windy City and checked into our hotel. We dropped our bags and then we dropped down on our beds. It had been a long trip from Massachusetts to New York to Ohio and into the Land of Lincoln. Wife and I couldn't wait to see what Chicago had in store for us. It's a city she had always wanted to visit. Our first experience was at a gas station. There was a little bit of sticker shock when we filled our gas tank. Gas prices are tough wherever you go, but we weren't expecting it to be this tough. We were too tired to give the price at the pump too much thought, though. It was 9:00 and it had been another day on the road. The Boy wanted to see the pool and make sure it passed muster. While checking in, he and The Oppressed went to check things out. It l...
