"Are you a Bird like Me?" by Noel Foy and Nicholas Roberto

Image
My family is its own cast of characters. If you ask my wife and children, I could very well be the biggest character here. Everyone here has their quirks and the different things that makes them tick. From my son's love for watermelons and asking for them every Christmas, to my youngest daughter's obsession with Rick Riordan and letting everyone know of the latest development in his writing whether it's asked for or not. And then there is my oldest daughter, who needs twenty support animals just to ger herself out of bed and isn't seen by anyone inside the house or out because we're all just prisoners of the matrix. Speaking of support animals, Wife and I are keeping the hard cap of two. Dealing with School The Boy and The Oppressed are in elementary school and middle school, respectively. They have made their own circle of friends. These children can be just as quirky as they are, and that's alright. What makes them tick can be entertaining, and I have no idea...

Stellwagen Beer and Events

Image
It's no secret this daddy likes his beer. Although I have my favorites, I also like to try out new beers, especially local ones. It's important for me to support local businesses and help the small businesses pay their people, who are also local. One day while happily living my life, I came across the Stellwagen Beer Company from Marshfield, MA, the home of the Talking Information Center . In addition to offering locally brewed beer, they also host a lot of events for people to check out while enjoying a beer. Beer by itself can be fun, but when more fun is being offered in addition to the beer, it borders on exciting. Jurassic Dark, A Dark Lager Beer Pop's Fine Wine and Liquors in Easton News about Stellwagen and the events it would be hosting reached my social media . I had never heard of the brewery, but I was intrigued at what was happening on its grounds, as well as the beer. I dropped by a store that I knew I could count on for locally made beer. Jurassic Dark by Ste...

One Woman's Work to Stop Bullying

Image
No one likes being bullied. No doubt, everyone has at least one story of being bullied, being a bully, or watching someone get bullied. Stories are rampant in the media and social media can make the act of bullying easier. It can also make stories about bullying more accessible. "The Only Way Out" "The Only Way Out" by Katie Kuperman; 181 pages In her book "The Only Way Out" , Katie Kuperman tells a story of two girls, Kaitlyn and Rebecca. The girls have grown up on the same street and are excited to start high school together. The excitement is tempered when Rebecca unknowingly crosses paths with Chantel, a school bully who accuses Rebecca of deliberately bumping into her. The confrontations between Rebecca and Chantel escalate to the point where Rebecca wears scarves to hide a nasty bruise on her neck. Kaitlyn knows Chantel is continuing to harass her friend but doesn't quite realize the extent to which the bullying is being carried on by Chantel an...

Easy One-Pot Ratatouille Recipe

Image
With The Oppressed being a vegetarian, I sometimes cook meatless meals. It's easier for me to cook one meal for everyone instead of multiple meals for different people. There was one time she wanted to help me shop for dinner and help cook it . Also, Lent is in full swing. This means I am a vegetarian on Fridays for the time being. I got a recipe from Sonia at Love Incredible Recipes . She describes her website as, "including a collection of delicious vegetarian recipes and refined sugar-free recipes." It was a recipe for ratatouille. I have made ratatouille before. It's a fairly simple dish to make, and it's full of vegetables. Always a plus when you have growing Miracles of Christ to feed and keep alive. I like eating it but, once again, I am in the minority. It hasn't been a hit with the family. You can find Sonia's recipe here or just scroll down. There were some options for me as I was planning the meal for this particular evening. I had some other v...

March is Mad as a Hare

Image
March 2024 March is a busy month for my family. It seems like there is always something going happening throughout the month. Not only are there birthdays and other celebrations, but there are also days that have their significance. There are plenty of reasons to have a party. Here is a look into the wild month of March that comes in like a lion and doesn't leave us much time to take a breath for what awaits us for the rest of the year. What's Happening in March The biggest wild card is always Easter. Easter might come in March, or it might come in April. This year, it comes on the very end of March. March 31 to be precise, so we have one more holiday and occasion to fit into our agenda this month. In addition to our festivities, The Boy has just happens to have a dentist appointment on the first week of this month. Like I said, there is plenty to celebrate on this splendid month, like our dentist buying a new vacation home. The Month of March March 6 - As a history buff, Marc...

Nighttime is the Right Time for Stories and a Drink

A parent's work is never done. Even as the children retire for the evening, there are duties and responsibilities that require parents. These include making sure the children have brushed their teeth, or their dirty clothes from the day are in hampers or laundry baskets. Did they shower? Is the shampoo/conditioner/soap thoroughly rinsed out? Is their hair brushed so there are no tangles? As I just said: A parent's work is never done. Part of my job at the end of the day is reading to The Boy. This has been my job ever since the child moved on from a crib to a bed. Before him, I read to The Oppressed. She would pick out the book for me to read, and I would read to her until she fell asleep. This nightly tradition has moved on from The Oppressed's bedroom to that of The Boy. Instead of reading books about girls playing and princesses dancing, we read about Dog Man and the Cat Kid Comic Club . "Dog Man" by Dav Pilkey "Cat Kid Comic Club" by Dav Pilkey A Dr...
