Hello there, Daddies (and Mommies). Thanks for stopping by and checking things out. I'm Greg and, like you, I have children.
Our lives aren't very different, you know. We take our kids to school, pick them up, go shopping for things we hope they will eat, make meals they probably won't, and somehow try to keep everyone alive and maintain our sanity. You and I both know it's not always easy. If you ask our children, though, they won't understand what's so hard.
That's why I decided to write about my time at home with the little people I call the Miracles of Christ. I call them this because it's a miracle they're alive after everything I've put them through. Lovingly tucked away in this site is stories of children who have survived practices, school, homework, chores, even (God forbid) an occasional walk. It's not always easy around here, but we somehow manage to survive life in these crazy times.
Okay, enough about all that. Meet the family.
Wife
My partner in crime. Wife and I met one night over the internet. A couple of weeks later we met at a bar for drinks. Who knew all these years later we'd be holding it together at home with five kids, a dog and a cat. Wife works in the private sector but a lot of us think she works for an off-the-books, black-ops department of the federal government due to long hours at work and periods of time where no one can get a hold of her.
Lovie
Lovie is our oldest daughter. She recently started college, and I'm excited to hear about her days and classes. I know things are fantastic because classes are always, "great" and the day was always "great". She and I spend quality time riding to and from campus where she listens to her phone and pretty much ignores what I have to say, no matter how reassuring it is or how interested I am in knowing what she's doing. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before she caves and tells me everything I want to know.
Slugger
Our oldest son, God bless his heart. Slugger recently got his learner's permit, so you know there's going to be at least two or three good stories from that. This child loves sports and sleeping. Mornings are a bit of a challenge for him, as well as other things that make you wonder what's between his ears. He's not much for conversation, even simple questions like what's happening at school. If you own any stock in bourbon or scotch distilleries, you're welcome.
The Oppressed
Our youngest daughter. Lover of turtles, music, and days off from school. The Oppressed is a fan of Harry Potter and loves to include me when she's watching a movie or a fan's video on YouTube. The Oppressed is still finding her way through middle school. She's not a fan of some of her teachers and she forbids me from talking to any of them if I happen to see them outside of school. I asked her one time if she knew where her teachers liked to hang out. I'll never forget the face she made.
The Boy
Our youngest son. Things started out great with us. He liked baseball and football, then the things somehow went off the rails. Now he's into Roblox and Minecraft. He also keeps a strict schedule. He needs to be at school to meet his friends and needs to be home so he can see those friends at the bus stop. The Boy is also kind enough to pick books for me to read to him at bedtime. I try to pick a book from time to time, but those get vetoed.
The Gaggle
Foster children. There are different stories about different people, but the name will be the same. Believe me, I have stories.
Me
And there's me. A mild-mannered, educated, well-read individual who runs this show. Beer and scotch have become my friends, probably because they listen to me. The understand me. I am a cook, a chauffeur, someone who is just trying to survive the daily struggles of parenthood. These struggles include coaching youth sports and making it to another school for a pickup or drop-off. It's fun. You should see the pretty circles I have under my eyes.
Well, that's the main cast of characters in this drama. There will be more people that will come into the story as time goes along. In the meantime, sit back, pour yourself something nice, and enjoy the stories. Remember, you're not the worst parent out there. That's me. Just ask my kids.
