Generation X is Grieving the Loss in Music, Entertainment

Image
Generation Xer's have been dealing with losses of people from their childhood. The latest batch of 3 celebrities to pass away were core figures in the world of music and entertainment. Fans of wrestling, music, and prime-time television were shocked to hear of the passing of Malcom-Jamal Warner, Hulk Hogan, and Ozzy Osbourne. Malcom-Jamal Warner Photo: commons.wikimedia.org Families watched "The Cosby Show" on Thursday nights in the 1980's. One of the sitcom's plot lines would involve Warner's character,  Theo Huxtable , and his lack of effort in school life in general. Theo was your typical television teenager. He was a know-it-all who was trying to stretch the rules laid down by his parents, if he wasn't breaking them outright. Theo would be a better person by the end of the episode having learned his lesson and received a punishment that would probably be looked upon as a little lenient in the real world. Maybe it was Theo learning his lesson and gettin...

Family Time at an All-Inclusive Resort

Image
The Boy and I were buddies on the  flight to the Dominican Republic. Like most families, we try to take at least one vacation every summer. These can be road trips where we take a multiday drive to our destination like Chicago. Sometimes we will fly to a destination and cover more ground to see a destination further away. This year's vacation took us to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Wife thought it would be a good idea to hit up a resort and have others do the cooking and cleaning. I thought this was a good idea. We spent the weeks leading up to our trip packing and checking off the necessary items for our trip. Lucky for us, the Easter Bunny had left us some beach towels and clothing for this trip. We packed our bags with the Easter gifts and left home bright and early for our flight to the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic Landing in Punta Cana. Our plane touched down in D.R. we deplaned and walked outside on the tarmac to the airport where we checked in with customs. ...

Busy Times on Summer Vacation

Time on the beach. It is heading into the middle of July, and everyone at the house is adjusting to a few months of no responsibilities and being able to relax and go about their business in the morning. I shouldn't say "everyone". Wife is still hustling to work every day. For me, it's heading into the busy season at my job. My little miracles of Christ, however, are free from the shackles of reading, writing, and arithmetic, and they have had no trouble adjusting to their new schedule, which is now drastically reduced. The Kids are Having Fun The Boy continues to ride his bike with the Fruit Loops. Instead of riding to school, they are riding to local bike parks to coast down hills and then to a local store for something to drink after showing off impressive speed and skills to each other. The Oppressed is celebrating her new parole period by staying in bed under an extra blanket to help her properly sleep. Waking time is spent texting with her friends and reading Y...

"Skibidi Ohio Rizz" by T.M. Daliggr

Slang is an ever-evolving, ever-changing thing. The jive and trash people talked back then isn't the same as what kids are down with today. Sometimes, it seems as if it would be very easy for our children to discuss something sinister or "sus" right in front of us and we would have no idea what they were talking about. Every Generation has a Language Growing up my friends and I had our own language and lexicon. Some things we said were widely recognized by everyone our age across the country, and some things we said were just things that were made up among ourselves, sometimes from something funny on a particular day or an event that still stays with us. Having children in my house gives me a front-row seat to the ever changing words and phrases that make up the conversations kids have. Wife and I don't exactly understand everything they are saying. Sometimes they explain what they're saying, and sometimes they just laugh and call me a "Boomer". I have t...

Hope for People who Suffer from Lazy Eye

Keeping your child healthy is not always easy. Daddies and mommies do everything they can for their little ones, but things happen. Especially when our little darlings are out of the house. While we have them in our sights, we do what we can. We cook or prepare healthy foods, we child-proof our homes when they are learning how to walk. Children have helmets when they are out on their bikes or skateboards. If your child is anything like The Boy, then he or she is a little daredevil and you are dying 1,000 deaths as they practice jumps on their bike, swinging off tree branches, or just tearing around in general, seeing if they have more lives than a cat. Sometimes, an affliction isn't from reckless disregard. Unfortunately, children are sometimes born with something that will affect their health. You want to do everything you can to make sure your little Miracle of Christ is well. Sometimes the problem requires professional help, and you must seek that. Take Care of Your Eyes Eyes ar...
