Celebrate Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving. It's the day we remember what we're thankful for. It's the day we gather together with friends and family for a feast that will stand out as one of the biggest meals of the year. Thanksgiving is the one day we know we're going to eat too much but don't regret it. This is a day for football, food, family, maybe a little tryptophan-induced nap. Many people celebrate Thanksgiving in many different ways. Different Thanksgiving Tradtitions Traditions have come and gone in my lifetime. There have been things my family has done together, and there are things I have done on my own. As times changed, I found myself with different obligations on some years and other years left me with no obligations. Whatever the year called for, I didn't mind it as long as there was a turkey drumstick and some pie. Parades and Football My earliest memories of Turkey Day are of living in East Lynn . Thanksgiving morning was fun for my family because the marching bands would ...

Daddies and Mommies do all kinds of things to make ends meet, and some have an easier time of doing it than others. In order to make those ends meet, people work. Sometimes you drive or walk to work. Sometimes you take public transportation. All means of getting to work have their advantages and disadvantages. Taking public transportation means saving on gas and parking. It can also mean not fighting traffic jams. If you're lucky, you can find a "train friend" who can help you pass the time on your commute. Sometimes that "train friend" could be a connection that goes beyond a train ride. I know people who started as "train friends" and ended up married! Riding the Subway If you can't find a "train friend", there are other ways to pass the time. When I was in college, a train ride meant a chance to catch up on some reading for a class. You could also work on a crossword puzzle or just listen to some music. Put some buds in your phones an...

"I Forgive you for your Diaper" By A Parent

Image
My youngest child is in the fifth grade, so the days of diapers, wipes, and smells of toxic waste are far behind me and Wife. I don't miss those days. Regular Target runs for diapers and wipes are safely in my rearview mirror. Parents remember milestones and old routines. Some memories are looked back upon fondly, and others are remembered but not exactly missed. Back when my Miracles of Christ couldn't move on their own, any time to leave the house included diaper bags, making sure it was properly stocked, and also remembering bottles and making sure the carrier was properly installed in the car. An entire list of things necessary for our child to make sure they (and we) could make it through the activity we were preparing for. Times changed, and that meant we weren't doing as much changing as before. Our children moved on to training pants. Wife and I bought a training potty. Sometimes our children made it to the potty, and sometimes we had to change them. It was a challe...

Anna's Tale Relationships are a lot of work. Things don't always go smoothly and there are always bumps on the proverbial road. Life happens. That's a fact of life. Sometimes, people need to work together in order for things to work, and sometimes things don't work out because of personal demons. A personal demon that can sink a relationship is addiction. "Stolen Secrets" by Denise Diana Huddle

I have written about some books on this site. Most of them have been children's books. Books are great for adults to read with their kids, but what happens when the kids are gone, and you finally have a couple of moments to yourself? Do you want to read another children's book, or are you ready to read something that is geared more towards adults? "Stolen Secrets" by Denise Diana Huddle Denise Diana Huddle has worked as an oil landman and then as a private investigator specializing in the oil and gas industry. She has taken her experience in both careers to create a story about an environmentalist ranch manager, Sarah Chandler, who has her hands full with a chauvinistic tool pusher and a fire on the land she's in charge of. Her book, "Stolen Secrets" , is the first of her "Deadly Secrets Texas Trilogy". Ranch manager Chandler begrudgingly works with Ethan Tanner, a retired special forces officer working as landman for the White Stag Oil Compan...
